Copyright and Trademark Issues

While we are not obligated to review Content for copyright or trademark infringement, we are committed to protecting copyrights and trademarks and expect users of our Site and Haggadot.com Services to do the same. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 (the “DMCA”) provides recourse for copyright owners who believe that material appearing on the internet infringes their rights under U.S. copyright law. If you believe in good faith that any material used or displayed on or through our Site or the Haggadot.com Services infringes your copyright, you (or your agent) may send us a notice requesting that the material be removed, or access to it blocked. The notice must include the following information:

a physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed; identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed (or, if multiple copyrighted works are covered by a single notification, a representative list of such works); identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing or the subject of infringing activity, and information reasonably sufficient to allow us to locate the material on our Site and/or the Haggadot.com Services; the name, address, telephone number and email address (if available) of the complaining party; a statement that the complaining party has a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and a statement that the information in the notification is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that the complaining party is authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.

If you believe in good faith that a notice of copyright infringement has been wrongly filed against you, the DMCA permits you to send us a counter-notice. Notices and counter-notices must meet the then-current statutory requirements imposed by the DMCA; see http://www.copyright.gov for details. DMCA notices and counter-notices regarding our Site and the Haggadot.com Services, or notices concerning trademark use in personalized products we make or in our Site and the Haggadot.com Services, should be sent to:

Haggadot.com PO Box 385 Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 [email protected]

If a member submits a DMCA Counter-Notice, Haggadot.com will forward such notice to the party that submitted the relevant DMCA Takedown Notice and allow the member to repost the disputed content after 10 days, as provided by law. Haggadot.com reserves the right to terminate the account of any member who repeatedly infringes the copyright rights of others, as determined in Haggadot.com’s sole discretion.

Prompt: Can you re-write the blessing over the wine in Shakespearean English? Chat GPT: Certainly, here's my attempt Hark! Raise the cup, whose ruby glow Doth shine like gems on monarch's brow, Let man and maid, with joy aglow, Give thanks and raise their voices now. Beneath this crimson hue, we see A symbol of God's love so free, Who led our fathers from slavery, To freedom's land, where we are free. So let us drink, and blessings say, To God,...

A Poetic Introduction

by Haggadot

Prompt: Write me a poetic introduction for a Passover Haggadah.  Chat GPT:  Gather 'round dear ones, it's that time of year When the story of Passover draws near A tale of triumph, of struggle and of pain Of a people's freedom, hard-won again and again With matzo and wine, we'll retell the tale Of Moses, of Pharaoh, of the Red Sea's gale Of plagues and miracles, of a nation's birth And the lessons we've learned, passed down through the earth We'll...

What Is a Passover Seder?

by Haggadot

Prompt: What is a Passover Seder? Chat GPT: A Passover Seder is a ritual meal that is held on the first and/or second night of the Jewish holiday of Passover. The word "Seder" means "order" in Hebrew, and refers to the specific order of the ceremony that is followed.During the Seder, participants retell the story of the Jewish people's exodus from Egypt, which is central to the Passover holiday. The Seder is structured around the reading of the Haggadah, a special...

Introduction

by Haggadot

To my fellow Haggadah creators: Like so many others, I’ve been desperately searching for new inspiration and fresh creativity this year–for new content that isn’t just a revival of trends from my youth, or that doesn't follow a predictable formula. And, as ironic as it is, I recently found that inspiration by asking a platform built on algorithms to rewrite song lyrics from the 70s. I won’t go as far as calling artificial intelligence art–though I’m sure many would say otherwise...

An Extraordinary Word for Good

by Haggadot

When I grew up in Ukraine in the city of Oonetsk, there were people of various nationalities living there. Their 10 certificates had the word 'Russian,' 'Ukraine,' 'Georgian,' 'Kozaki,' it wasn't that important and there wasn't much of a difference. One thing was important - if it had the word 'Jewish' written on it, that would be as if you had some disease. We knew nothing about Judaism, except antisemitism and hatred towards us. That's why no one tried to replace...

The Seder's Order

by Haggadot

The Seder's Order by Marge Piercy  The songs we join in are beeswax candles burning with no smoke a clean fire licking at the evening   our voices small flames quivering. The songs string us like beads on the hour. The ritual is its own melody that leads us where we have gone before and hope to go again, the comfort of year after year. Order: we must touch each base of the haggadah as we pass, blessing, handwashing, dipping this and...

O, Let My People Go/Go Down Moses

by Haggadot

These are some of the original lyrics heard and written down in 1851 These are some of the original lyrics heard and written down in 1851 by Rev. L. C. Lockwood, chaplain of the “contrabands” at Fort Munroe Virginia. “Contrabands” was the name given to those who ran north to escape slavery during the Civil War. The Lord by Moses to Pharaoh said, O, Let My People Go! If not I’ll smite your first born dead, Then, Let My People Go!  ...

Questions to Ask Around the Seder Table

by Haggadot

Questions to ask around the Seder table ● How are the two stories of slavery and liberation – the Passover story of the Israelites and the African-American story – alike, and how are they different? ● In what ways are the descendants of those who wrote the song "Go Down Moses" still experiencing oppression? ● How might making a yearly Passover acknowledgement contribution make a difference to you and to those who receive the contribution?

Mothers of Redemption

by shai cherry

This fifth cup of wine has passed down through generations of women, beginning with Sarah.  It has spilled and, yet, like the bush on fire but never consumed, the glass continues to overflow.  The Kabbalists (the Maharal, 16th c., Prague) believe that we drink 4 cups of wine in memory of our 4 matriarchs.  The fifth cup, named for Miriam who led us through the straights of Reed Sea in song and dance, is in memory of Zelophechad’s five daughters.  They...

Miriam's Cup - Winona LaDuke, Native American Activist

by Jewish Solidarity with Native American People (JSNAP)

In the Passover story, Miriam the prophetess is a true community organizer, leading her people across the Red Sea in song and dance and helping them to feel the power of liberation! Miriam knows that their power lies in the full diversity of the community. Everyone, man or woman, can be a great leader. Another story is told about Miriam and her brother Aaron challenge Moses’ prophetic authority asking: “Has the Lord spoken only through Moses? Has he not spoken through...

Looking Towards Pesakh

by Ritualwell

We’ve been bound by a hardened heart And our inability to see ourselves in each other. We have been puffed up by ego and pride. Enslaved by how things have always been. And now it is time to go. But fear threatens to paralyze. How can we possibly exist any other way? Our imagination falters The attachment to what we know is so great It doesn’t matter that it causes us so much pain. We dig in. We will not be...

Poem

Caged Bird BY MAYA ANGELOU A free bird leaps  on the back of the wind    and floats downstream    till the current ends  and dips his wing  in the orange sun rays  and dares to claim the sky.  But a bird that stalks  down his narrow cage  can seldom see through  his bars of rage  his wings are clipped and    his feet are tied  so he opens his throat to sing.  The caged bird sings    with a fearful trill    of things unknown   ...
