Remember this day, the day you went forth from Egypt, from the house of bondage, for with a mighty hand Adonai the Eternal One led you forth to freedom.

"The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light." From bondage to freedom, from darkness to light: this has been the path of our life. For this we give thanks.

On Shabbat include the text in parenthesis.

Barukh atah Adonay Eloheynu Melekh ha-olam asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav v'tzivanu l'hadlik neyr shel (Shabbat v'shel) Yom Tov.

We praise you, Eternal God, Ruler of the universe, who sanctifies us with commandments and commands us to light the (Shabbat and) festival lights.
