We place a Seder Plate at our table as a reminder to discuss certain aspects of the Passover story. Each item has its own significance.

  • zeroa, a roasted shank bone representing the Paschal lamb.

  • beitzah, a roasted egg (symbol of re/birth). 

  • maror, the bitter herb (usually horseradish), symbolizing the bitterness of slavery.

  • karpas, the green vegetable, symbolizing spring growth and renewal.

  • charoset, a mixture of apples/nuts/cinnamon or dates/nuts/honey , representing the clay or mortar used by the Israelite slaves.

  • orange, which has come to symbolize full inclusion in modern day Judaism. 

  • Hazeret - a bitter green dipped in fruit sauce by the Greco-Romans in the day as an appetizer
