As we taste the bitter herbs in this chaotic time, we think about loss -- the loss of parents, grandparents or other family members. We may yearn for the Passovers of bygone eras. Because of social distancing guidelines, we have the loss of not holding close the people we love who are still here. Then there is the loss of celebrations and trips that are cancelled, routines that are changed and financial security that is upended. We don't know what the future will bring. That unpredictability lies quietly beneath the veneer because in the end, we're all highly vulnerable and undeniably mortal.

These are certainties we can't escape, which makes rejoicing in the here and now that much sweeter.
