Today we are scattered around the city, each at our own tables, connected by love and the strands of internet cable that we hope don’t break.  There’s a Seder plate on my table but none of the ritual items are on it.  There should be parsley, haroset, bitter herbs, a boiled egg, and a shank bone, each representing an element of the Pesach story.  But store aren’t safe, shelves are bare, and grocery deliveries unreliable. So, this year, we must learn to be flexible.  We will make due with what we can scrounge from the pantry, attempt to bake our own matzah, and fashion a shank bone from cardboard.  While this may still seem surreal and unfair, let’s pause to be grateful for what we do have – the food on our tables, family and friends, and our health.
