Lots of birds cache food, store foraged food for later use, especially around the time of the leaner months. Some birds, however, are cleverer about it than others. The western scrub-jay makes a point of hiding its food especially carefully because the species also engages in cache-theft. They make sure to hide thier food when they're unobserved, and if they find they're being watched, they'll go back and re-hide it.
