Everyone knows all parrots are born knowing how to say "Polly wanna cracker"; this has been the case ever since the phrase was popularized. So, what is the origin of the phrase? Turns out the earliest recorded use of the phrase is a cartoon in a satirical magazine with a picture of a boy about to stike a parrot over the head with a stick, featuring the caption, "Polly want a cracker?" Presumably this was a pun on the word cracker, referring to both the snack and also the assault.

Fun stuff. Now, eat the matzah.
