SHOES ON THE DOORSTEP:  Tonight's celebration recalls the events of some 3,200 years ago.  Exodus, people escaping suffering, fleeing for their lives.  Throughout the ages, we have celebrated our freedom - and expressed our understanding, and our empathy for those whose shoes we ourselves have walked in.

Today, as we celebrate our freedom, we commit ourselves to continuing to stand with contemporary refugees. To honor of this commitment, we ask a participant to place a pair of shoes on the doorstep of our home to acknowledge that none of us is free until all of us are free and to pledge to stand in support of welcoming those who do not yet have a place to call home.
