All animals have different ways to clean. We wash with water (and soap), and cats clean with thier tongues. But that's not all cat tongues do. I've sponken about cat papillae before, but one of the properties that i often overlooked was the thermoregulatory role grooming played. One study theorized that evaporation of saliva distributed along the fur by pappille contribute about 25% of cat cooling done on a regular basis (among things like sweat glands on paws).
