The purpose of Pesach

It great to have an understanding of why we do something as well as following a script. So tonight the purpose will be a little understating of the religious side and more the understanding of tradition.

So we ask and try to answer, why is this night different from all others, why we lean to the left, what do the things on the plate mean, why leave a cup of wine for Elijah?

The Haggadah is more than a user’s guide throughout the Passover meal. The word Haggadah itself means “telling,” as its primary purpose is to facilitate the retelling the story of the Exodus from Egypt It is to engage us in a dynamic experience, giving us the sense that it is we who left Egypt. If we put ourselves in the perspective of it -- is us who were slaves --we can appreciate the freedom we now have and focus on those that don’t have it.  .

The Haggadah explores our history, starting from the first Jew, Abraham, and leading us to the Exodus from Egypt. On a deeper plane, it also tells the story of the Jewish people throughout the ages—Understanding slavery and hope. So in essence this is about slavery and hope using symbols , such as those on the pesach plate to show Jewish values.
